He is still grieving over the loss of his son who died after swallowing a bean but today Belmopan resident Eckert Guy was treated like a common criminal. It happened in Belize City at around 11 this morning. Guy says he was at the corner of Euphrates Avenue and King Streets with a relative when a team of officers pulled up and pounced on them. According to Guy, the officers accused them of having a stolen phone. He visited our studios this evening and showed us the marks from the handcuffs. He told us what happened next.
Eckert Guy, Roughed Up By Police
“He said you are under arrest for handling stolen goods. I told him, officer this is not stolen goods, this is my family and we were talking about this phone, he just gave me this phone. He said well let’s go. I told him I would follow him in my vehicle and he told the driver to arrest him, put

the cuff on him. So he assisted the driver and they bangles me and pushed me in the vehicle.
He was telling me you guys are encouraging in stolen items and he is taking me to the station. I told him officer I didn’t do anything wrong and I am a law abiding citizen and I just came down to get this phone from this guy. I told him he made me feel bad because it is like I committed a big crime or something. I told him I don’t know why you are behaving like that. He told me to shut up and he didn’t want to hear nothing from me.
I told him when I am finished from there I was going to make a report to the police and to the media and all of a sudden he just jumped on me and told me that if I go to the media and get him in trouble he will kill me. He said he is going to kill me. I told him he is not acting like a police officer at all. He made me feel so bad.
I told him man I have a brother that is in the police, who works with the police, and I committed no crime so I don’t know why you are behaving like this. I told him man I am going through a lot right now, my baby just died and now you are harassing me and I did nothing wrong. Then he said he will take off the cuff and he said to an officer give me the key to loose this fool. That is what he said to the police officers so he was loosing my hand and he asked me why I am behaving like this and why am I resist. He was trying to create an impression that I was doing something wrong so he loosed my handcuffed.”
Eckert Guy says the officer later apologized and expressed condolences about the death of his son Jaydan Guy. Jaydan as you will recalled died last month after he choked on a bean and doctors were unable to get it out – now being investigated as a possible case of malpractice. Despite the apology, Eckert Guy filed a report with the Police Department’s Internal Affairs Office.
