They are joined on the protest line by Donna Belgrave – she’s another school warden who got fired in June of last year. This 33 year old mother of five says that despite getting skills training from the Women’s Department, she still has not been able to get a job for the past year.
Jules Vasquez,
“You feel it happened because you are associated or you are a PUP?”
Donna Belgrave, Fired
“Well I feel that that happened because it is politics sir. They said I am PUP.”
Jules Vasquez,
“You got the job through a Minister in the last government or something like that?”
Donna Belgrave,
“Yes sir I got it through my area representative.”
Jules Vasquez,
“Now you feel that is unfair?”
Donna Belgrave,
“It is unfair for me sir because I am a single parent.”
Jules Vasquez,
“Do you accept the Minister’s reaction that he has a lot of people like you who weren’t getting nothing in the five or ten years of PUP and he has to give them something because they voted for him? Do you accept that or you feel that is still unfair?”
Donna Belgrave,
“Well I feel that is still unfair sir because he could put more school wardens because we do need more school wardens sir.”
Jules Vasquez,
“So you’re saying instead of firing unu, he should find new jobs for those ones?”
Donna Belgrave,
“Yes sir. I think he should create more jobs for the single parents because women go through a lot of stress right now with man.”
Jules Vasquez,
“You feel that if you would play another role then, a double roll and tell them I switch and I am a UDP just give me a job, you feel that would work or they done know you are a PUP and they can’t change you?”
Donna Belgrave,
“Well sir they done know I am PUP because my area representative tell me that he won’t help me because I am PUP and I will never change.”
Jules Vasquez,
“Who is your area representative?”
Donna Belgrave,
“Michael Finnegan sir.”
Jules Vasquez,
“I know he wah tell you straight.”
Donna Belgrave,
“Yes sir.”
She confirmed that Finnegan ahs been assisting her with one of her children who is in school. He told us that assistance dates back to when he was in opposition and includes some healthcare assistance.
