Dara Robinson, he is known for his Bob Marley, Lucky Dube, and most recently Michael Jackson concerts on the big screen. But Dara is also a good Samaritan. Three weeks ago he launched a drive to collect canned food for distribution to needy families in the King’s Park area. He wanted to fill a barrel but in three weeks he only collected enough canned goods to fill a crate. Still something is better than nothing and he decided to donate the crate of food to the Dorothy Menzies Child Care Center. In the spirit of transparency, he took the media along.
Dara Robinson,
“I received a little amount of canned food which I am grateful for. It isn’t much because normally what I do is I pack in bags like this and I would go around and give it to needy families and thing but it isn’t sufficient to do what I really wanted to do so I decided to give it to the Children’s Home.”
Dorothy Faber, Foster Mother
“Well it helps a lot when they come in and donate things because you know it is a lot of kids. The government provides but with the donations and things that come in, it helps a lot.”
Dara Robinson,
“I apologize to the families who I know were looking out for me and thing but I feel like right here is a better spot because this goes direct to needy kids and thing. I have a dream to help people and yes this is nice and thing but I really wanted to give it to families. I would make you see how some families greet me and thing and this gives me a feeling, a high. When I done my heart feels so blest and I guess blessing from God for this and I am just begging Belizeans to start help each other and help kids and thing in need. Right now is back to school and thing, mek we start help kids and thing and stop leaning on just government.”
About 60 children at the Dorothy Menzies Child Care Center will benefit from the donation. Dara is still accepting canned goods and you can find him on Sundays in the BTL Park. And to make it clear, this is not his first effort at charity; he runs a feeding programme for low income schools on the north side.
