Today it was an unusual sight when a customs officer went to court in Corozal, accused of facilitating the movement of a cargo of contraband Gatorade.

The incident is alleged to have occurred on the eighteenth May at the Santa Elena border crossing. Two men drove up in a van - Tillett checked them, and they passed through.

But the Customs Enforcement Unit had a tip and they stopped the van a little up the road, only to find 70 cases of Gatorade inside. Today in court, Grade one Customs officer Tillett and two civilians were read the charges. One of the civilians, Nehru Gilharry pleaded guilty and was fined eleven thousand dollars to be paid by December or face two years in jail. With that plea, the charges against the other civilian and the customs officer were dismissed.

We are told that Tillett may still be brought up on Administrative charges within the customs department.
