Last night, we told you how an island watchman shot his co-worker because he thought that the person roaming around his worksite was an intruder. Well, police have brought charges against that watchman for that shooting.

As we told you, it happened on Saturday night at around 10:00 at Middle Long Caye, off the coast of the Belize District. 46-year-old Jose Cortez, a Salvadoran from Belize City, was on duty at the island, along with 57-year-old Ricardo Mendoza, a Salvadoran from Sarteneja Village. The two had been drinking and then Cortez went to sleep. He awoke to the sound of dogs barking.

He went for his.22 Rifle, spotted the shadow of someone running, and fired a shot at what he thought was an intruder. Turns out, it was his fellow watchman, Mendoza, who was injured to the upper right side of the chest. He fell and hit the left side of the head, suffering another injury.

Cortez is claiming that the shooting is accidental, but, he is going to face consequences for it. He has since been charged with dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm.
