Six Belizean artists have collaborated on what is sure to be a hit single.
It's called "Chapters" - and while you may be humming it after a few listens, study the lyrics and you'll realize that it's more than just a catchy tune; it's an anthem for women's empowerment.
The project is the brainchild of popular artist Brithney Starr. Starr wrote the first few lines of verse before reaching out to the other artists on the track. The other artists then each contributed lyrics of a deeply personal nature. They are now seeking funding for the production of a music video. We spoke to the project coordinator and three of the artists on the track about the collaborative efforts involved in the composition of the song.
Shamira Humes, Coordinator, Chapters project

"The Chapters project is the brainchild of Brithney Starr. One day she received an instrumental from Young Era and the idea popped in her head. And from there she was the one that reached out to several of the female artists that are on the track."
"The track is really a women empowerment type song so as much as we can get it out there to empower our Belizean women."
"There are six artists: Brithney Starrr,Jackie Cas,Shauna "Boss Lady" Willams, Sharon Martinez also known as Bad Gyal Sharon, and LB Fynest, she's an upcoming artist."

Shauna "Boss Lady" Williams. Belizean artist
"Well my verse speaks about the women that have made a big impact in my life like my mom and my grandmother especially."
"Also I spoke about not growing with a father; I also spoke about being molested at a young age."

Brithney Starr, Belizean Artist
"My verse speaks about me not finishing school because I taught at the time what I was doing was right. My mom could lash me today and tomorrow I'm doing the same thing that she just spoke to me about. I realize now as an older woman that my mom was only trying to guide me in the right direction. You know and then I spoke about my dad who did drugs. You know and I respect my dad I love him even through death you know but that is a part of my story even at the time when I sung it around my mom I was scared because I don't know if she will like the things I'm saying."
Jackie Cas, Belizean Artist

"I don't do a verse but I do a chorus and my chorus is telling you keep your head high no woman no cry make nobody mash up you life and that goes for anybody because as women sometimes you are attacked because of the color of your skin, how you look."
