Opposition Leader John Briceno and his driver Edwin Hill survived a catastrophic car accident on August second. They both escaped with only minor injury, but the PUP Leader was ordered to take three weeks rest.

Since then, Briceno has been recuperating at home. Today, the still slightly banged up party leader made his first public statement since the accident.

He said he's slowly getting back to work:...

Hon. John Briceno, PUP Leader

"I am happy to say my head condition has improved to the extent that my doctors are allowing me to do limted work from home. Most of the cuts and bruise are cleared up and the head injury is improving at a satisfactory rate, so I can now get back to some work from home. Few people who are involved in an accident like mine are able to walk away from it as Edwin and I did. So I give thanks to our creator and to our fine Belizean doctors and nurses. Like most things in life there are lessons to be learnt. For me, that is my message for this week: drive carefully and please always wear your seatbelts."

There's no word yet on whether Briceno will attend this Friday's house meeting.
