Allison Cuthkelvin, a 34-year-old fisherman from Tibruce Street, is at the Belize Central Prison tonight. He will spend 3 years in jail for breaking into his ex-common-law wife's house, stealing from her and then trying to escape by hiding in the ceiling.

The incident happened sometime between January 31st, 2018 and February 1st, 2018. Denise Martin, a school teacher from Lacroix Boulevard called the police when she came home and realized that her microwave oven was missing. When the cops arrived, they found Cuthkelvin in the ceiling. It appears that while she was at work, Cuthkelvin gained entry into her home by actually cutting a hole in the roof.

He was arrested and charged with burglary, and at his initial arraignment, he pleaded not guilty to the charge, despite being caught on the scene. When the case went back before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer today, Cuthkelvin changed his plea to guilty. He told the court that he was hiding in the ceiling because there was a restraining order against him, which banned him from entering the house.

The Chief Magistrate sentenced him to spend 3 years for the guilty plea, and that sentence is to run concurrently to a separate 2-year prison sentence that he is already serving.
