The body of 24 year old San Ignacio resident Robert Nunez was found yesterday in an off-road area of Benque Viejo. Nunez was last seen in the Champon area drinking with two companions. Today Police told us that he may have crossed the border illegally.

"On Wednesday the 19th day of February 2020 around 10:49 PM, Benque Viejo Police responded to reports of a body that was found in Benque Viejo. Police visited the area where they found the decomposed body of Robert Nunez in an area around 150 yards away from the highway. The investigation was carried out which revealed that this individual was reported missing by his family. Thereafter he was found at the location. The information is that he was seen in the Champon area drinking with two Hispanic male persons. Thereafter his whereabouts were unknown."

"How are investigators treating this particular incident? Is it as a homicide or are you guys awaiting the post-mortem to find out how to classify this particular case?"

"This is a homicide investigation we are conducting."

"Sir is there any information at all up to assist investigators with respect to finding out what happened to him?”

Hilberto Romero
“There is limited information. That is the only information that we had gathered, that he was with these two male persons, drinking. And thereafter his body was found. That’s all we have."

"Sir have you been able to determine if he was killed in Belize or across the border?"

"We are not sure where he was killed. The post-mortem results will reveal all the issues as we go along."

“There is no footage as the investigation revealed that he may have crossed the border illegally.”

Nunez's body had stab wounds to the chest and cut wounds to the right side of the neck.Â
