Minister of Health Pablo Marin killed an intruder at his Corozal home on Thursday night - and, so far, there has been no directive from the DPP on whether or not charges will be brought.
Today, the Deputy Head of National Crimes InvestigatIon had no update to give - here's what he was asked and answered at this morning's press briefing in Belmopan:
Reporter
"I have to ask about the incident, the fatal shooting in Corozal involving Minister of Health Pablo Marin. The Commissioner had made some comments about the investigation file being forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for a directive. Can you speak to us as to where that is - that investigating?"
Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero
"Yeah, I have no comment in regard to that investigation at this time."
As we reported on Friday, Marin told police that at around 10:30 on Thursday night, he heard rusting sounds inside his home - and when he went to investigate, he found Matura, who threatened him with a knife. He says that he was forced to shoot Matura in self-defense because, in the heat of the moment, he believed that his life was in danger. Police say that they found a knife on the scene. They say that they also found a bag of Marin's stolen belongings near to Matura, who was already deceased when the responding officers arrived on the scene.
The deceased man's sister is insisting that the Minister should be criminally charged for unjustifiable use of deadly force.
