And indeed, tonight - again, the latest NEMO advisory says, quote, the models at the MET service do not show significant development of this system before it reaches Belize's coast.

But, NEMO's job is to be ready nonetheless - and a few weeks ago that meant running a simulation for a COVID hurricane shelter:

Col. Shelton Defour (Ret'd.) - National Coordinator NEMO
"One of the things we did last week was to set up a shelter in Belmopan with COVID 19 considerations, whereby your temperature was checked at the door, you had the spacing in the Belmopan Convention Centre, we had the cleaning supplies, the PPE's the facemasks, the gloves and things like that, and that was relatively ok dry run, so to speak. Even though we are going into September, this isn't a time about celebration this is a time about preparedness, getting ready to save your life, every day dealing with COVID 19 and with the possibility of a tropical cyclone affecting Belize."

The latest NEMO release says, quote, "Regardless of development, this system will likely bring heavy rainfall across the country starting late on Wednesday night and continuing on Thursday. The NMS will continue to monitor this system and update you accordingly." End quote.

We note that the 6:00 pm update from the National Hurricane Center about this disturbance says "Environmental conditions are expected to gradually become more conducive for development, and a tropical depression is likely to form during the next couple of days while the system moves westward at 15 to 20 mph. Interests in Jamaica, northern Nicaragua, Honduras, Belize, Guatemala and the Yucatan peninsula should monitor the progress of this disturbance." End quote.

We surely will be doing that here at 7News.
