Quick work by Belmopan police last night resulted in the thwarting of a robbery, and the recovery of the weapon used in the hold up of a young couple.

Just after 8:00, police got a call about a robbery in progress near the Governor General's field on North Ring Road. Police got there in under five minutes and detained a 26 year old carpenter of #4 Garza Avenue with who had a.38 revolver with 6 rounds of live ammunition.

He had just held up and demanded money from 20 year old Elvin Mendez from Las Flores who was with a 16 year old female.

Mendez refused and the robber pulled out a firearm. Mendez struggled with him, and that was when the Police pulled up and took the suspect into custody and retrieved his firearm.
