And to round out the holiday killing spree, Thursday's other killing also happened in the south - this one in Punta Gorda.

Just after midnight on Thursday morning, 28-Year-old Eden Mejia was shot 4 times to the back. It happened at a friend's house on Pampana Street where he'd been living.

It's a home that had seen violence before and one that his family warned him not to stay in.

This afternoon his sister told me about Eden, the brother she calls the baby of the family, and the circumstances of his murder that remain mysterious.

The police, however, provided a bit more clarity about Eden Mejia's case. According to ACP Myvette, he was killed by two assailants who forced their way into the home. It seems they targeted him after what the cops are calling a misunderstanding.

Eden's sister also told us that the family figured early on that Eden was shot and killed in his sleep. She says he was the kind of man that tended to go to bed early and added that he died wrapped in a sheet that their mother had recently given him.
