Tonight, 23-year-old Herman Friesen, a resident of Little Belize, Corozal, and 27-year-old Gerardo Lino, a resident of Progresso Village, are facing drug trafficking charges. That's after police busted them at a checkpoint in Ladyville with a kilo of marijuana, and a small quantity of cocaine.
Around 5:00 on Monday evening, police stopped a Chevy Pickup truck with Orange Walk license plates; it was heading to Orange Walk. Friesen and Lino were inside.
Police searched it and they were loaded! In the panel of the front passenger door, cops found just over a kilo of weed, or 2.39 pounds. And, on the left, rear passenger door, they found another 46 grams of marijuana. They also found Friesen's phone case which had 1.5 grams of cocaine on top of it.
The cops figured Friesen was a drug trafficker and got a search warrant to go check his home in Little Belize Village, Corozal. That raid led to the discovery of 8 transparent plastic bags, which contained 212 grams - or about half a pound of marijuana, which was found in a bathroom cabinet. A deeper dig inside his bedroom, turned up a plastic bottle that had 2 transparent plastic bags, each containing cocaine to a total amount of 1.2 grams.
These are all separate drug trafficking offences, and so, the cops charged Friezen and Lino jointly with 2 counts of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply to another. Friesen was also charged with 3 additional counts of drug trafficking
