And less than 24 hours after Rosado's death, another man was killed, this time in the Belize District. The story starts yesterday evening in St Anne's Village.

56 year old Raymond Allen told police he heard his younger cousin Robert Smith shouting for him outside. When he went out to see him, his cousin asked him if he wanted a cigarette. Before he could answer, Smith fired a single shot at him with a 16 guage shotgun injuring him.

And while Allen survived with only a graze, when police went to arrest Smith in Maskall, they ended up fatally shooting him.

Today, Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, explained the chain of events that led to his death. We note though that the ComPol, mistakenly referred to the first victim, Raymond Allen, as "Mr Jones."

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"As you would know that we reported last night or even this morning of the shooting of Mr. Jones which occurred in the Belize River valley area. Mr. Jones was at home when he heard a calling from outside, he peeped and he saw a person known to him as JR, he came out to meet JR and upon doing so he was asked for a cigarette and before he could have replied JR shot him with a shotgun. Mr. Jones was taken to the KHMH and is currently admitted in a stable condition. I directed My police officers to go in search of JR because we need to find JR so that he can be dealt with for the complaint made against him. And this morning JR was encountered by the police, he was still armed with his shotgun and he fired shots at the police, the police returned fire and JR was shot dead. I have since directed the professional standards branch to do the usual, investigation to see if in fact there is some wrongdoing or breach of policies by the police officers because it's a fatal shooting. We still need to ensure that we do what needs to be done to ascertain that what happens is actually justified by law and that the story given by the police is indeed what took place."

Police have recovered the weapon which Smith carried.
