And while no one was injured in that fire, a man is dead after a road traffic incident on the Stann Creek Valley Road on Saturday. This incident is a bit tricky, since there are two accounts about what really happened. The police say that 22-year-old Michael Acosta was on a motorcycle when he collided into the victim, 49-year-old Bartholomew Stanley. ACP Joseph Myvett gave us the details.

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head NCIB

"Saturday evening, Dangriga police responded to the information of a road traffic accident somewhere around mile 9 on the Stann Creek Valley Road where they met and spoke to one Michael Acosta who was on the scene and also seen on the scene was a Hispanic descent male in the middle of the highway, apparently motionless. What Mr Acosta reported to police is that he was northbound coming out of Dangriga when he saw this male person staggering in the middle of the highway, going in the same direction he was travelling in and in an effort to avoid hitting this person, he then moved more towards the left hand side of the road to which the person staggered into his motorbike and he unfortunately was knocked down by Mr Acosta. This person was learnt to be Mr Bartholomew Stanley, 49 years of a Hope Creek Village address. He was detained pending investigation and eventually he was issued with a notice of intended persecution pending the outcome of the investigation."

However, civilians are claiming that a vehicle was involved in the incident and that Acosta is really a victim. Their reports say that it was a hit and run and the driver of the vehicle took off, leaving Acosta with injuries and Stanley dead on the road.
