Death has knocked on the door of another member of the Hyde family of Roaring Creek. They have dealt with an incredible volume of loss and grief over the year, but it never gets easier. And on Saturday evening, a young member of their family was gunned down. 21-year-old Malcolm Hyde was sitting in a car in the village when his killer spotted him. Less than 5 minutes after his girlfriend left the car, the gunman found his mark. And now the family is left to mourn another loved one. Courtney Menzies travelled west to speak with Hyde's girlfriend, who told of her desperation to save her boyfriend's life. Here is that story.
21-year-old Malcolm Hyde was craving a specific meal on Saturday, and while he knows his home village, Roaring Creek, isn't the safest place for him, he took the risk and went to Miller's.
But that risk cost him his life because Hyde was shot multiple times while sitting in this vehicle. He was with his girlfriend of four years, and the moment she heard the shots, she knew they were directed at him.

"I went inside, it took me like one minute to walk inside, grab the menu, and as I grabbed that menu, I heard shots, five shots, and as I heard that I --. Someone yelled, it was popshot, and then I said no, that's my man. And I was running out there, and I run I saw him in the car, and he was shaking, he was like fighting for his life but his body wasn't moving like he was trying to come out, he was just in that seat shaking and I turn around and I watch everyone, they're like hiding for their life and I screamed and I said nobody's gonna help me, and I'm not gonna leave you here to die, so I jumped in my car, I took the key out of his hands and I reversed from there and I drive him to the hospital, I said only they could save you babe but I will save you too and the look on his face was like, Darcy, please save me."
And Darcy Wright tried her best to save Hyde. She made it to the Western Regional Hospital in about 6 minutes, driving as fast as she could while trying to keep his heart pumping. But, it was a shot to the lung that took him out.

"He didn't make it… oh gosh if I had known, I would never make a mistake like that."
And Malcolm now joins a list of Hyde's who have been murdered in Roaring Creek. Wright told us that he wanted to change his life and had moved out of the village to be safe. And while he had tried to keep his girlfriend out of harm's way, his past caught up with him only two weeks after returning.

"I know everything about Malcolm, he won't tell me serious things like if he did something really bad, he won't tell me those kinds of things, he won't involve me in that kind of life, I am just somebody he trusts but he won't tell me those things because I won't tolerate him to do it."
"And then he came out of prison like three months ago and he said Darcy, if anything should happen to you out there because of me while I'm not there, he said, I won't have anything else to live for so please be careful."
But even cautiousness couldn't save Malcolm from his notorious last name. But Wright explained that despite his family's infamy, her boyfriend did his best to look out for others. And she believes he is still helping her, even after death.

"I take some sleeping pills just to sleep, I don't know how I will ever get through this right now, I beg Malcolm, if he breaks up with me I know it will hurt me but don't get killed because I don't know how I will live with it, right now I feel like I'm not even on Earth and I'm a person, I'm afraid of dead people, I'm afraid of funeral, my granny dead I didn't go see my granny, my cousin dead, I didn't see my cousin but when I see my baby."
"In that car, I get so brave, and I know he was dying on me and I wasn't afraid, I should have kissed him for the last time and he gave me strength, I'm picking his casket, I'm planning the funeral and everything because I know everything he likes and I want him to be happy. Mally, I'm sorry I took you there…" (crying)
The long list of Hyde's that have been murdered begins in 2013, with Randolph Hyde, who was shot during a robbery at the family's meat shop. His brother, Mark Hyde, was shot too, but survived. Then in 2015, the notorious Russell Hyde's wife was killed by a sniper in front of him and their kids. Nine days later, Steven Hyde was found butchered in a shallow grave in Russell's yard. Then later that year, Russell was murdered execution style inside his house. A little over five years later, in 2021, Clifford Hyde was gunned down in his yard. And then on Saturday, Malcolm Hyde made the sixth Hyde murdered.
And an associate of the Hyde family, Edilberto Madrid's body was found floating in the Roaring Creek River in 2015 as well.
