Belizean baseball athlete George E. Perteau Jr. is getting ready to attend a prestigious baseball camp in the US.

The 17-year-old is one of the star baseball pupils of the Belize Visionary Foundation of Baseball and Softball, a non-profit organization that focuses on improving the sport in Belize. The Foundation was first established in January of 2017, and since then, they've been scouting young Belizean talent to help develop in the sport.

The Foundation is working out the logistics so that he can travel to Miami, Florida the 2021 Power Showcase event. That's an event, originally created back in 2004, that has evolved to provides a platform for the top high school power-hitting prospects from 27 countries around the world. All these promising young athletes get to demonstrate their overall skill-set in a major league stadium in front of baseball's top scouts.

The Belize Visionary Foundation of Baseball and Softball has decided that George Perteau Jr. is one of those prospects that has great potential.

This weekend, Perteau and his coaches spoke with the press about his training and his upcoming trip:

Carlyon Flores, President, BVFBS
"The prospect here is George Perteau Jr.. Junior and I had fostered a professional and respectful relationship, I believe he attended one of the Belize Visionary Foundation of Baseball and Softball summer camp that we had about two years ago, and since then I have noticed that Junior possesses the potential to become a very great baseball player. I did not foresee that in such a short time that this opportunity would have come whereby he would have been invited to participate in such a very world-renown baseball event which is known as the Power Showcase. So what are doing right now, we have been in preparation, trying to prepare Junior for this event. Of course there have been some little bit of setbacks."

Rene Habet, Baseball Coach
"Junior is a very, very talented young man. He is very professional when it comes to this sport and very disciplined in this sport. I know there are a lot of ways that he can improve, but for right now this young man is the best potential, the best prospect right now in Belize. This young man has dedicated himself, comes out day and day out and does his practice. So I know that he will do excellent over there. And no matter what as I said he does and come back, I will be proud of this young man."

George E. Perteau Jr.
"My intention to go in the Power Showcase is to show off what I got, all the talents I have, so I will try out there as well too. I believe it will open a big door for Belizeans a lot. We are better off in certain ways and many ways as well too. It will be a good choice for me to go."

The Power Showcase takes place from November 20th to the 24th.
