28-year-old Bryan Castillo was caught by Guatemalan police earlier this evening. Castillo was wanted by Belizean police after he killed his common-law wife and her 12-year-old daughter on Sunday night.
After the murders, Castillo jumped on his motorcycle with his 7-year-old son - whom he had just gotten partial custody of - and headed in the direction of Benque Viejo Town.
Police anticipated that he might cross the border and contacted their counterparts in Guatemala. The child, Darwin Castillo, was found earlier today in Melchor and was returned to his mother, Irma Leticia Mendez, who also resides in Melchor.
Castillo was then found in San Benito, Peten just an hour ago and detained. According to Guatemalan media, he admitted that he killed 33-year-old Jennifer Archila and 12-year-old Nitzia Catzim but alleged he only did so because he and Archila were drinking and the woman put a knife to his son's throat. He claims that he did what he had to do to protect his son.
