And to try and come up with a truce to stop the bloodshed, an emergency mediation was held this weekend between the rival groups.

Compol Williams - who has himself spearheaded many such mediation sessions in the past - played the tough guy on this one - saying he only sent a stern message:

Cherisse Halsall:
"Sir is there any truth to the rumor/report that there was a gang truce this weekend?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"There was no gang truce this weekend, what happened, all again with an attempt to stop the bleeding that we were seeing on the streets in the city the LIU brought together the different gang leaders and had a meeting with them. I was invited to that meeting and I told them that I was not going to that meeting because I had no intention of meeting with them. I simply told LIU to inform the gang members that if they continued with their problem I would know what to do to address their issues. And so that meeting was had and I am told that the gang members gave their commitment that certain things would occur and we are waiting to see how things move on from there."
