Tonight, police are asking for your help in finding the man who killed security guard David Gonzalez on Thursday night in San Ignacio.
As we told you on Friday, he was killed by a gunman who was trying to steal his weapon. And, from the way the security guard acted when the assailant approached him - it seems to be someone he knew.
Today, police said they have a suspect from a grainy surveillance video and are asking your help in identifying him:
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood
"On Thursday sometime around 7:30pm police visited Super Q Mart on a Bullet Tree Road where they were informed that security guard was shot and transported to the San Ignacio Community Hospital for treatment. Our initial investigation revealed that David Gonzalez, twenty-seven-year-old security guard was approached by a single male, armed with a firearm. This male person made an attempt to relieve Gonzalez of his firearm that belonged to the security company that he was employed with. Gonzalez refused to hand over that firearm and while he was retreating from that person, that person fired on him fatally injuring him. We are asking for the assistance of the public; we have sent out a few still shots from a video is trying to identify the assailant in this murder."

"Is it believed that Gonzalez knew him, because if you watch the surveillance footage, he initially smiles at the figure before he realized what he is trying to do."

ASP Fitzroy Yearwood
"I don't believe it's because of an acquaintance or so, because it happened so quickly. He didn't realize this person came for the firearm that he had on his side at the time, so I wouldn't want to speculate that maybe he knew that person."
