Tonight a magistrate and the commissioner of police are on high alert after information emerged that someone had allegedly put out a hit on them.
7News spoke to a source with knowledge of the situation - he is a relative of the magistrate and someone who has underworld connections.
He said that information had come to him from street sources that a woman who lives on one of the islands hired a Belize City gang two take out a hit on a magistrate who is adjudicating a matter which she stands to lose.
When we spoke to the commissioner of police about it - he said he was also a target in the alleged contract killing. We tracked him down in Ladyville this evening - and here's what he told us:

"Yes, I have received information yesterday and I am not moved by it. I have task CIB and commander operations to do certain things, because the person who actually put out the hit known to us and those that we were told are the ones being hired to do the hit - we also know who they are and so they are being monitored by the police. What needs to be done will be done. At the end of the day as the Commissioner of Police I have a job to do and I'm not going to be deterred from doing my job, because of some persons who may be aggrieved of whatever may have been done to them."
"Yes, we do understand the person's motivation as to why they may want to do certain things and with the hope to get myself and the particular magistrate out of the equation things are going to be better for them, but that's not true. At the end of the day like I said before we have a job to do and we must do our duties to the best of our ability and in terms of the threat, we'll do what needs to be done to neutralize that threat."

"You know what stage this particular alleged hit is at?"

"Well, yes we know. I'm not going to disclose much about it, because like I said there are certain things, we are doing to ensure that the threat is neutralized and the person in question who we believe is behind the hit, we are also looking at that individual and whenever the time is right for us to bring that person in, we're going to bring that person in."

"Have special arrangements made for the security of this magistrate?"

"Like I said we are doing what needs to be done to neutralize the threat and for me the good Lord is my guide, I do no wrong to nobody and I am certain that the good Lord is going to protect me."
The Commissioner told us he would not go into detail - but he expects that the woman who allegedly sent out the hit will be brought in for questioning. We'll keep following the story.
