Tonight, 26-year-old Alexander Bainton, a resident of Ladyville Village, is bracing to pay a 12-hundred-dollar fine. That's after he was taken to court for common assault against his girlfriend.

She reported to police that on April 29, 2022, she was taking her very young baby to a clinic. That's when Bainton approached her and demanded that she hand over the child. She says that because she didn't answer or comply, Bainton slapped her. She then walked away and went inside their home. Bainton allegedly followed her inside, grabbed her by the throat, choked her, and punched her all over the body, bursting her lip. The victim further claims that while she was getting ready to go to her cousin's wedding, Bainton made it clear that he would not allow her to leave, and that's when he punched her in the face, causing her right eye and jaw to swell.

When he appeared before Magistrate Khiana Gordon, Bainton, a fisherman, pleaded guilty to the charge. He claimed that the reason he was so angry with his girlfriend was that he recently caught her cheating with his best friend.

In response to the guilty plea, the presiding magistrate ordered him to pay a fine of $1,200.
