And while the council was giving Goodin the toughest ultimatum of his young political life, his closest ally in the caucus, councillor Michael Novelo had left the meeting early. As the mayor pointed out earlier, he said he had a personal emergency but, it's likely he also decided against being a part of throwing his close ally under the bus. Here's the Mayor's take.

"Well you can put it, people on the outside the perception is that he could have probably made the decision to weigh in on that very important matter but again it's his choice he figured that he probably didn't want to participate in that session there or that part of the session and everyone has that right."
