Ladyville Police made a major contraband bust yesterday - and from the looks of it - it seems the smugglers were moving with confidence that they would not be stopped.
We say that because their GMC Silverado pickup was LOADED with wholesale quantities - almost 100 cases 0 of contraband beer, and they were moving in broad daylight.
At around 11:15 in the morning - police got information and searched the pickup where they found the driver, 22 year old Ainslie Castro along with three other men - all of them from Belize City.
In the pan, they found 74 cases of Corona beer, 12 - six packs of Dos Equis, 3 cases Modelo beer, two cases Bud Light Beer and other assorted liquors and soda.
And while the pickup was carrying a full contraband cargo - that wasn't the only violation. When police checked, the truck had no valid registration or insurance. The temporary permit had expired more than two weeks ago. Plus, the insurance, while valid, was for another vehicle completely.
All four persons were detained while Police called in the Customs Department to deal with the contraband - while other charges will have to be assessed for the traffic offences. We are told customs has agreed to settle out of court - and the first payment has been made.
