Today we press the police for more information on last Wednesday night's murder in Orange Walk Town. That's the one that resulted in the murder of 39-year-old Reynaldo Marchand, and the hospitalization of his distant cousin, 31-year-old Nazir Vasquez.
As we told you, Vasquez is the son of the well-known Ermelindo "Milin" Vasquez, and it was suspected that the gunmen, who came on a motorcycle, were targeting Vasquez specifically. He survived, while his, cousin died. Here's what ASP Yearwood had to say about the killers on motorcycle:
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood - Police Communications Officer
"We have since searched several homes, and we are still trying to identify these two persons. And hopefully, with the assistance of the general public, we will be able to identify and detain. We are currently trying to establish a motive."
Daniel Ortiz
"Can you provide any insight as to why it was that police had to go into emergency defense mode, immediately after the shooting sir?"
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood

"Daniel, to prevent any further fatality, we went into what you refer to as emergency defense mode, but the bottom line is to prevent retaliation. We know that a shooting of this nature, and like you rightfully put it, based on who the victim was, We believe that he would have some form of retaliation. And to prevent any further loss of life, we rolled out operations, and it is working so far. We hope that you could apprehend these assailants quickly enough to prevent any further loss."
Daniel Ortiz
"Is the victim who survived cooperating with investigators? The suggestion to us from persons who verily believe their information, and aren't idle persons, suggested to us that he wasn't, and that was of concern. That usually follows when individuals may take the law into their own hands in retaliation."
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood
"Well, Daniel, as I said, if they do that, we are prepared to deal with that. Whether or not he wants to cooperate with us, that doesn't stop us from investigating. The investigators believe that we know enough to try to meet some form of apprehension if these assailants are found. whether or not they want to take the law into their own hands, we are prepared to deal with them, when or if that happens."
