Gibnut Street resident, Jeffrey Brown - who is non verbal - underwent emergency surgery at the KHMH after sustaining a stab wound to his left side last night.
It happened when Brown was socializing with friends from the neighbourhood. That's when a 14-year-old minor who'd had a knife in his hand all night used it to inflict a wound on Brown.
Friend and neighbour Shenelle Roland acted quickly to call the police and get him to the hospital. Today she gave us her still vivid recollections of the incident.
Shenelle Roland, Neighbour/Friend of stabbing victim
"Last night, Jeffrey Brown is a person, he always comes around here. He's well known in the neighbourhood, everybody knows him. Every time he comes he usually chases him. So when he chased him they punched him and cut his wind and he bought his mom but when he brought his mom the police had already taken him and they brought his brother and everybody so then they took him to the hospital and his mom came and his mom asked me if she could go to the hospital and thing. I told her yes but when I spoke to his brother this morning I reached out to his brother a little while he told me that Jeffrey did a surgery this morning, early this morning and he's still in the recovery room and hasn't gotten up as yet. So we don't know how he stands as yet."
"He no harm nobody he's a very friendly person, you can ask him to do anything for you."
Cherisse Halsall:
"Do you feel that he was taken advantage of last night?"

Shenelle Roland, Neighbour/Friend of stabbing victim
"Yes Ma'am."
Cherisse Halsall:
"How come?"
Shenelle Roland, Neighbour/Friend of stabbing victim
"Because the young man, and we knew that something would happen because he stood there just sharpening that knife, they took the knife from him and he was still. He cried for the knife back so they gave him back the knife and he knows what he did because when he did he stood up at the gate. He stood at the gate for a little while and after that, he just ran and jumped the fence. When my little brother went after him he pulled the knife at my little brother and told him that it came to grab him he'd stab him too. Up to know police no get him yet."
Brown is expected to be released from the KHMH tomorrow. His teenaged assailant is still at large.
