A concerning video of a cop passed out cold in the middle of the road surfaced today and while initial speculation was that he may have been in an accident, it turns out, he was just under the influence. The officer, PC Balmory Amaya, fell off his motorcycle and fell asleep on the road. He has since been given a letter of interdiction which stated, quote, "You were observed in possession of a motorcycle on the Philip Goldson Highway whilst apparently under the influence of drinks or drugs laying down on the highway oblivious to what was going on. Furthermore, your condition and presence on the highway temporarily obstructed the free traffic." End quote.
Today the ComPol described this incident as "embarrassing" to the department and the uniform.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

"Certainly, I saw the video this morning and I am embarrassed by it. It looks exceedingly bad to see a police officer in uniform in such a position. I don't know what to say but I'll just say this. We expect our officers to act in such as a way that they're not going to bring disrepute to the uniform that they wear and certainly the officer was under the influence. He had appeared before a tribunal and had pled guilty to failure to provide urine specimen because he was asked and he failed to provide. The only reason one would fail to provide is because you know why. So he pled guilty for that along with other disciplinary infractions. I have since directed that he be placed on interdiction and I have requested the notes of evidence in respect to his tribunal and it will be reviewed. If there is sufficient there that warrants a dismissal then certainly we'll have to part company, he cannot continue to wear the police uniform."
We understand the officer - attached to the SPU - has been charged for failure to give a sample and intoxicated while in a police uniform.
