And we turn now to a grieving man who says that the cops have assumed too much about the violent intentions that he and his family could have after his father was killed.
We're talking about Rocky Road's Christopher "Christy" Hyde, a prominent gang figure and son of murder victim Ben Hyde whose funeral was held today. On Monday, Christy Hyde told 7 news that he isn't looking to retaliate, just to mourn his father in peace. But, he says the police keep harassing him and his family to contain any retaliation, but instead they are victimizing the victims instead of leaving them to grieve.
We asked the COMPOL about a specific turn of phrase in that interview, and here's his off the cuff reaction:
Reporter
"Chisty Hyde, we need to ask you about him, because he said that he and his family are being harassed by the police and he said "no mek I get the nex way." Do you take that as a threat, sir?"
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"If you people continue to give air time to these gangsters, they will forever believe that they are a relevant part of society and they are always going to be glorified, because of the fact that you took time to give them air time. The time I spent listening to the lengthy interview that you all gave to Christopher Hyde, I wish you could give me back my time listening to that nonsense. At the end of the day I am not going to beg Christopher Hyde to behave himself. If he wants to be the other way, then for Christ's sake let him be the other way. We certainly will know what to do with him when the time comes."
