He Pleaded Guilty To Raping 5 Year Old

Salvadoran national Bairo Gomez is behind bars tonight after he pleaded guilty to the rape of a 5-year-old child.

That crime was committed 3 years ago, and went to to trial before Justice Suzanne Lamb in the Supreme Court this morning. Gomez who is a Salvadoran has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison for more than three years because he is a flight risk.

Today, acting on the advice of his attorney Leeroy Banner, Gomez chose to plead guilty to rape and just saved the court time and the now 8 year old victim the trauma of having to take the stand and face the man who raped her.

The matter was held "In camera' due to the child's tender age and the sensitive nature of the offense.

Gomez's sentencing is set for July 11, 2022.
