And the only other topic on the Senators' table during the less-than-90 minute meeting was the Belize Companies Bill. This bill proposes to repeal, replace and consolidate the International Business Companies Act, which will provide a modernized framework for registration, operation and regulation of companies.

The bill was fully supported by Senator Kevin Herrera, who noted key points that the business community appreciated. However, Senator Elena Smith rose in favor of the Public Service Union, who had previously sent a letter to the prime minister, along with the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance and the FinSec in which they asked to be consulted on the bill before it goes to the House.

Well, it went to the House and to the Senate, and while we'll have more from president Dean Flowers later in the news, Senator Smith brought those concerns to the House.

And Senator Eamon Courtenay responded to Senator Smith by assuring her and the PSU that the government will address their concerns.
