Tonight, 27-year-old Shaquille Perrera is a free man after he spent the last 11 months on remand for allegedly killing a teenager.

This morning, Perrera, who was unrepresented, went to court where he was told that the charges have been withdrawn against him - a directive which came in the form of a memorandum from the DPP's office. As such, the chief magistrate told him he was free to go.

Perrera was accused of killing 17-year-old Cameron Hernandez in Mahogany Heights on November 18th of last year. Hernandez was heading to the highway to catch a bus when he was shot. Reports are that he was able to tell police who fired the shots before he eventually succumbed.
