And while that launch was happening in Belize City, over in Belmopan there was a consultative workshop on the organic waste to energy pre-feasibility study. This is the first stop in finding new ways to create energy out of waste - particularly manmade waste, or waste that is the product of climate change, such as sargassum

And during the Minister of Energy's speech, he explained that this will assist in the long run to lessen the dependence on fossil fuels.

Michel Chebat, Minister of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics, and E-Governance
"As you all know, we share a world with very limited resources and so we must take advantage of all the resources we have regardless of where they come from, particularly if they are manmade as waste products are. And so this waste to energy is a productive method of relieving stresses on natural and manmade resources. It surely would be remiss of me to not highlight the huge potential of waste to energy in the achievement the of SDG's and the Paris Agreement which are among the most important international agreement which will help to set the transformative path to 2030 and beyond. Waste to energy can be a powerful tool to achieving many of the goals, particularly the goals of this government, and particularly the goal we have committed to, to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. It can contribute to greenhouse gas production, it will help to manage waste properly for enhancing quality of life, competitiveness of products by optimizing resources, and resolve ecological issues related to climate change such as the treatment of sargassum that washes up on our beaches. It can provide reliable, feasible and sustainable energy for our country."
