A well known Orange Walk resident was killed last night in Orange Walk Town. 47 year old Anthony Barkley Derras known as "Jah Cool" allegedly had a misunderstanding with his two nephews which led to a fight. It ended when Derras was chopped to the hand and stabbed in his back. He was rushed to the hospital but bled out and died shortly after.

His nephews turned themselves into police last night.

It's an inexplicably violent and cruel act against an uncle and today his co workers at the Orange Walk Town Council were still trying to come to terms with it:

Omar Mendez, Operations Manager, OWTC

"This morning when I got to work everybody was with sad faces, so I had to enlighten them and lead them the way that yes, it hurts, but life must continue regardless. And as I have mentioned before we are going to miss this guy a lot, because he was a very handy man. All our guys at the town council we were shocked and saddened in what has occurred. It hurts, but we don't know what has really transpired and definitely we will miss him a lot."

Reporter
"Did you know him to have trouble with people?"

Omar Mendez, Operations Manager, OWTC
"Not to no extent as what had occurred. Yes, I know he was a very good jockey too."

Ladrick Sheppard, Mayor, OW
"Basically, we grew up in the same neighbourhood, he was a little older than me. I am 44 and I know he is about 45-48 years old. We both went to San Francisco school together. Anthony Barkley went on a different aspect; I went in my field. He ended up being a great jockey. The only announcer that announces horse races in the entire Belize have seen him from a young age riding horses and he was one of the best. We just gave him an award and I will send you that picture. We gave him an award of being one of the oldest jockeys still riding up to now."

His nephews remain detained pending charges.
