Tonight 40-year-old Glenda Estrada remains in critical condition at the KHMH.

The mother of three gave birth to a son on Sunday night after being involved in what her common-law husband Nelson Pech has described as a hit-and-run accident.

It happened at around 8:00 on Sunday night when Glenda, who had reached full term in her pregnancy, headed to Ladyville's New Moon store to buy some last-minute items to take to the hospital.

Pech had stayed at home with the children and this morning he told Cherisse Halsall that he had a clear view of his wife's path home but then he heard a crash.

Here's what he told 7 News about the accident that put the mother of his children in mortal danger.

Nelson Pech, Estrada's Common Law
"I was at home with my kid and she was at the shop buying some little stuff and she was trying to cross the street and she was just knocked like a hit and run."

"The bad thing is from were I live I could see that she was coming and I just heard that noise and I just left my son and I hurry gone I saw that something happened and I tell you when I saw right there it was her."

"I guess it was the baby was about to come out like maybe the same night or within some hours."

Cherisse Halsall:
"So do you think that it's because she was having trouble walking at that late sage in pregnancy that she was slower to cross the street?"

Nelson Pech, Estrada's Common Law
"Well I think the was the reason why because she would have pain and things."

"She was just getting prepared, more to buy the little stuff that is neccesary and like she was trying to buy some things so that the pain came more and more because she said the baby was already there to come out and that is why when she tried to cross the street, and that is the bad thing I don't like when you hit somebody you should at least stop. You don't make that just don't make else arise the driver that they never did that."

Cherisse Halsall:
"What was your reaction like when you found her after?"

Nelson Pech, Estrada's Common Law
"Well my reaction was instant that I should move her from there because she was, she was a pregnant woman and like I told you she is a part of my life I have to take of her and I just decided to move her and try to find a vehicle or something to transport her as fast as I could because police were there and they said that wasn't their job so I still can't understand that, they are here to serve the people."

"My gyal name is Ms Glenda Estrada and she is 40 years old."

Cherisse Halsall:
"What kind of person is she?"

Nelson Pech, Estrada's Common Law
"She is a good person to me even though I am happy with her because she gave me the kids that I wanted in life. Right now she is on a critical condition right now, like she is struggling bad right now."

"The baby thanks God he fortunately we brought him on time and he is safe. That is my third baby, I have one girl and two boys."

The couple's new baby is a boy. Pech says that while he and his partner had yet to agree on a name for the newborn, he is considering calling him Matthew.
