Accused of assault and rape, George Street figure Ronlee Petillo asked for an adjournment today - because he's been locked up for the SOE and he told the court that he's been quote, "in the hole" for three weeks.
Because of this he says he was unable to contact his relatives or his attorney before his trial began. Petillo was expected to begin trial for rape and allegations of aggravated assault with a firearm upon a woman. He appeared in court today before Chief Magistrate, Jayani Wegodapola and requested that the trial be adjourned so he can liaise with his attorney. The magistrate granted him a 1 month adjournment so he can retain an attorney and prepare for his case. He was remanded back to the Belize Central prison and his trial will begin on September 26th 2023.
