And while that murder added two to the crime statistics - As the year winds down, major crimes are still on a downward trend.
For example, a total of 103 major crimes were reported for September 2022, compared to the 81 that took place this year.
Now looking at murders for 2023 September showed a total of 3 compared to the 13 last year. Despite These striking differences, the commissioner of police says that this still does not call for an early celebration, and they might not be clear from the eye of the crime storm just yet.
With a total of 6 murders being recorded within the last weeks of October, Compol along with his Minister both agree that there is no room for an early celebration.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I don't want to celebrate just as yet like you right you said we do have two months to go for the year to come to an end and as you saw what took place last week in two days we had five so we just have to ensure that we keep our feet on the gas pedal and do what needs to be done in executing our policing plans. At the end of the day as an organization, we strive to make sure we make our citizens safe and as Jules Vasquez would say that I do monitor the murder, count very very closely again. The reason for that is because a life loss really takes a toll on a family and so we try our best to preserve life, and then other types of crimes would then fall afterwards."

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
"Yeah I always look forward to the grade that Jules Vásquez assigns to our ministry at the end of the year. No doubt it is one of the most difficult ministries to manage. I think a minister would acknowledge that. But certainly so long as there is progress, and so long as I have the commitment of all of the police officers. I am confident that the numbers will continue to go down not just in the numbers of plane landing, but also in the numbers of murders, the numbers of violent crimes, and of course, in other crimes, petty theft, robberies burglaries these are all things that we are focused on day in and day out so we are still on trajectory to have a record breaking year I think, since 2007 so while it is a moment to celebrate, we cannot at any point say this is, let us celebrate this victory we have to keep pushing and keep bringing those numbers down."
