Now that the Commissioner of Police has been selected to hold the presidency of the Commission of Chiefs and Directors of Police of Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean and Colombia, he further discussed with us how this presidency will benefit Belize in expanding training opportunities for officers in neighboring countries.
The compol says they have secured a scholarship for two officers in Honduras, and are currently deciding which officers are qualified for selection.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Yes I must say that we have good ties with many of the different police organizations within Central America I can say for the first time that we are getting scholarships from the Honduras national police for two police officers, to go to Honduras to do a bachelors degree in policing, and again that came as a result of my recent visit to Honduras, where I met with the minister of public security, and the commissioner of police in Honduras, and we signed a memorandum of understanding, and so we're now reaping the fruits of that visit so now we are currently looking or seeking nominations for two police officers, to go to Honduras and undertake studies in policing up to a bachelor's degree so I know again when it comes to Salvador, we have done many training in Salvador. We have done many different operations with Guatemala, Mexico, join operations along our borders Costa Rica. We visited Costa Rica twice to look at the module of policing that is being done in Costa Rica to see how we can replicate that in Belize and so we do have great ties with the central American region and I'm also grateful that Colombia also recently gave us two scholarships for two police officers from the K-9 unit to go and do horses in Colombia in dog handling and also with, but we got to extremely good Canines that are in a part of our canine unit in Belize and so we are getting great corporation from our neighboring countries, and we are very grateful for that."
