This past weekend, the quiet community of Carmelita has been on edge following the murder of a 45 year old father of three, Hugo Rodriguez - who was shot multiple times when he was heading home from the village grocery.

It's not the kind of crime that the village is used to - and the alleged killers are 19, 21, and 24.

To create some sense of calm, the chairman and the authorities toured the village today to listen to some of the concerns being voiced by residents.

We spoke with the chairman this afternoon who is urging residents to come out to the community center for a meeting with the village, the area representative and the police.

Victor Polanco, Chairman of Carmelita Village

"The purpose of my presence here with the police is that I want the villagers to see that the leader of the village is out and also that we are here not for them to be intimidated but for them to see that we are working hard for the security of the village and people don't feel secure especially during this time for the Christmas time but not only for the livelihood of every villager."

"We know that the village has been escalating a little bit with the crime but we want the villagers to know that we have the presence of the police here already with us and they have assured us that we would be having a much secure village."
