While the village chairman maintains his commitment to working alongside the police to ensure citizen security within the village, the Compol shared with us a few observations and concerns voiced by the residents, including a call for increased police presence:
Chester Williams, Commissioner of police

"You would know that recently we had an incident in the village that where the life of a young man was taken and police have acted swiftly in arresting three individuals in respect to that crime but we do understand that the villagers do have security concerns and we are here to hear what those concerns are and see what we can do from a police stand point to address their concerns. Later on this evening at 6 we will have a meeting with myself and minister Bernard and we are inviting the villagers to that meeting here at the community center in Carmelita village. The purpose for us is to hear their concerns, myself and the minister. And the minister will do what he can from a political standpoint being the area rep of the area and then I will look at the police issues to see how we can both coordinate to make the village safe for the residents."
"One concern that they have is that they will like to see more police officers instead of one policing the village they want two. I have directed the OC to have three as of Monday. We will have two who will be responsible for the overall policing of the village and then we will have one that I want to come in to do community policing work. I noticed that there are a number of children in this village and they have nothing to do so we want to be able to bring our programmes here for the children to see how we can get some of them into some of these programmes as a form of distraction you know they are home they have nothing to do and an idle mind is the devil's workshop so we want to be able to have activities for the young people to make them more productive."
Reporter:
"You mentioned that there is a lot of kids in this village and when you guys arrested these individuals connected to this murder one of them is 18 and the other one is 19 can you talk to us about that?"
Chester Williams, Commissioner of police
"Well again it goes to what I'm saying that when we have a volume of children and they have nothing to do they tend to congregate together for evil purposes so if we can have them congregate together for good reasons then we will be able to help them divert from a life of crime and that is what we want to do."
"The persons who have been arrested are known to the police. I will say that much."
