One of the most consequential pieces of legislation passed this year is the Firearms Amendment Act - which - for the first time ever - took the responsibility for signing gun licenses out of the hands of the office of the commissioner of police - and put it in a new the Firearms and Ammunition License Control Board.
That was signed into law in November but the board has yet to be named.
That means a lot of impatient importers and fed up applicants. So what are they to do? To whom should they complain? The compol says, "Ask Jules":
Reporter:
"So What's your job been like since you no longer have to deal with gun licenses?"
Chester Williams, Commissioner of police
"My job has always been exciting very very much exciting I continue to do what I do but I do best and what I love to do to serve the people of this country to see what I can do along with the men and women of this department to make them feel safe."
Reporter:
"The new gun licensing board still has not been named - do you sense that there is impatience on the part of gun importers and those who wish to get licenses? What do you tell them when they call you?"
Chester Williams, Commissioner of police
"I will say to them to check with Jules Vasquez, maybe he will be the one to put the board together he has said what kind of people he wants to see on the board so perhaps he is going to appoint the board."
Reporter:
"So no predicted date as to when we will get these names."
Chester Williams, Commissioner of police
"You will have to check with Jules."
We checked with Jules and he said, "check with Kareem".
