And while Minister Musa met with the National Security Council, one family is hoping for a meeting with the Commissioner of Police. 28-year-old Trevor Brown was killed two days before the New Year in the parking lot of Thirsty Thursday. The surveillance footage showed him getting into a shootout with his killer, but before that, it seemed as if he was about to hit one of the men with his vehicle.
Three weeks later, the killer has still not been charged, and the last time we spoke with the ComPol, he said the accused may have a good case for self defense.
But today, Brown's family is rejecting that narrative, calling for the arrest of the shooter. His mother, who lives in the US, says it couldn't have been self defense since Brown was shot in the back. She spoke with us via Zoom.
Cheryl Brown, Mother of Deceased
"After we got the autopsy report, the autopsy said that the shot that eventually killed my son was a shot from behind that was in the back so if you got from the back, is that self defense of is that murder? Because unfortunately the video that we saw, it was more than one gunman on the scene. While my son and the other guy was shooting, the other guy came from around the vehicle and shot my son in the back which was fatal shot that killed him. You know, street talk, what they say in Belize, because the boy's dad is a man in high society, it would be self defense. I didn't make a black bird. I didn't give birth to a black bird and that's what I can't understand in Belize, too much corruption in the system."
"Chester needs to settle down and try to find the evidence, what was shown on the camera, that didn't start whatever transpired inside the club but they show what they want to show and that's what I don't like with Belize system because show everything, who is supposed to get charged, get charged. I know my son wasn't an angel because he wasn't supposed to be out there shooting any guns but at the same time, give justice where it belongs."
Courtney Menzies:
"Prior to when the guns were pulled out, when your son was still in the parking lot, still in the vehicle, it looks like he was driving up to hit the person with the car."
Cheryl Brown, Mother of Deceased
"That's because the other person he was firing shots at already shot at the car."
The killer has been injured as well and spent some time in the hospital under police detention.
