Earlier in the news we told you about two weekend home invasions. Well there was another. It happened on San Antonio Village Orange Walk on Sunday morning a6 12:30 am. The couple was tied up by gunmen who identified themselves as police and ransacked their home. They stole more than 7,000 dollars.

Today we asked the minister about the three weekend home invasions - and he started talking about last year:

Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs

"Like I mentioned over at our compstat meeting a few weeks ago, we can celebrate the reduction in the number of homicides that took place in 2023. The property crimes, burglaries, robberies, these types of crimes are still leveled. I mean every single year hundreds of burglaries, hundreds of robberies are taking place and that is why we are devising strategies including enhancing our neighborhood watch group component within the communities of our policing unit within the department all of these things go towards furthering community involvement especially in rural communities it's very difficult because there is no police presence in these rural communities and so if we can create that sort of relationship between the public and the police department I think that we can certainly bring down the number of burglaries taking place."
