The trial against attorney Oscar Selgado continued today in the High Court. In the last session, you heard from two witnesses, Chester Williams and Wilfredo Ferrufino, who stated that they recognized one of the voices in the audio recordings as Selgado. That voice was heard threatening death upon Marilyn Barnes. Since those recordings were lost, the crown had to rely on the testimonies of those who heard it.

And that's what Selgado's attorney, Adolph Lucas, seized upon to made a no case submission. He said that the crown's evidence was inherently weak, vague or inconsistent with the other evidence. Lucas stated that because Selgado could not be seen and only heard on the recordings, there is no confirmation that it was actually him.

Williams and Ferrufino had both testified that they knew Selgado's voice since they had interacted with him in the past and had heard his voice on various interviews given to media houses.

But Lucas argued that without visual confirmation, the testimony is weak.

However, during the submission, Justice Nigel Pilgrim commented that Lucas's arguments were seemingly pulled out of a "Santa sack" since his points were not provided in writing. Lucas was given until January 29th to put his submission in writing and give a copy to the court and the DPP.

He will be able to continue his submission on February 1st.
