A farmer was caught with almost 100 pounds of weed at a checkpoint on Sunday.
Acting on intelligence about a vehicle being used to traffic drugs, police searched Marshall Mejia's vehicle in Sandhill and found 67 parcels of cannabis concealed inside.
The driver, 37 year old Mejia and his passenger, 25 year old Waitress Winsy Ritchie, both from the Stann Creek District were arrested and appeared at the magistrates court this morning before Chief Magistrate, Jayani Wegodapola. They were read a joint charge for trafficking 97 pounds of marijuana.
They both pleaded not guilty to the charges, and were offered bail of $8,000 each under the condition that they must both surrender their passports before posting bail. Their next court date is set for May 20th 2024.
