87 persons are currently being held under the 90 day SOE which started exactly a month ago. So, they've got 60 days left to serve. But, tonight 7 news has learned that one of the detainees is a child.
He is a 13 year old from Belize City - who will be 14 in August, which he is scheduled to spend in prison.
He's been held under the SOE since June 28th - and the matter has now caught the attention of oversight agencies who are understandably concerned that a child is being held under the SOE - which means all his rights are suspended including his status as a minor.
According to the Prison CEO he is being held at the Wagner Youth Facility, not in the general population at Kolbe. But, our sources say that he has to travel to the prison when the bi - weekly mediation sessions are held.
Police say this child was picked up because he is associated with one of the city gangs in the Martin's area and he is considered very dangerous in the streets.
