We've been reporting on the four Belizean bands or combos that are going to perform at the Belize International Music and Food Festival.

Those ensembles are the brain child of Ivan Duran. He's leading the Belize Music Project - which is an excavation of 100 years of Belizean recorded music - much of it long buried in the national archives. He's excavating and digitIzing all those recordings and the gems he's unearthing has him feeling that they could lead to a much needed renaissance in Belizean music. Here's how he pUT it last night on Uncut:

Ivan Duran, Music Producer
"The majority of artists and producers in Belize are hungry to try something else. We have to admit that things haven't been going well, right? It's true."

Jules Vasquez:
"What makes you think things haven't been going well?"

Ivan Duran, Music Producer
"You need another record for that. I'm."

"Yes. No, no, no. But think about it."

Jules Vasquez:
"Yeah, I know."

Ivan Duran, Music Producer
"We're not making any kind of mark in the world. We need to get back to musicians playing together again more often and develop themselves. I think we have great talent in Belize. Great musicians, and the musicians of these four combos they are amazing, despite any criticism that we can say."

"And we probably overreact when we talk about these musicians on these records. This musicians, it's the same DNA. Jules. Like is the same, the same feel like you say we have it like within. It's just we need to put in more time and we need to feel that the country needs it or wants it. If we get that and this is just the first step, the Belize Music project is only six months old, so I can only imagine in a few years we could look back and say, Wow, this was a good idea."

The show repeats on Sunday morning.
