In October of 2019, Caye Caulker Resident Jayme Marin was charged for the stabbing murder of his 18 year old cousin Isaac Marin, and attempted murder of his other cousin Carlos Marin. Doctors had diagnosed Jayme with Paranoid Schizophrenia after he told one of his cousins prior to the attack that " The devil wants your soul." Jayme was declared "Mentally insane" and unfit for trial and was placed on remand. But after a second evaluation was conducted he entered into a plea discussion with the crown and submitted a guilty plea for one count of manslaughter and one count of attempted murder.

He was today handed down a 15 year sentence by Justice Nigel Pilgrim but due to his guilty plea and having shown remorse in court for his actions, Marin will only have to serve 12 years and 8 months of his sentence. Marin had been granted bail back in July of 2024, but since he refused to show up for his court hearings and refused to take his medication, his bail had been revoked. Marin was represented in court by Arthur Saldivar while the crown was represented by Crown Counsel, Shanell Fernandez Peyrefitte.
