And a little over a week ago, in that same area, an elderly man was beaten and robbed.
72 year old Ron Waight's injuries were so severe he had to be transported to the KHMH while his brain was bleeding. While he survived the attack and has been discharged from the hospital, he's still on the road to recovery and he now needs to reapply for the cards and documents he carried in his wallet. Today we spoke with his brother via Zoom, who told us more about the attack.
Robert Waight, Brother of Robbery Victim
"Apparently, he was beaten up, he was really assaulted bad, his face was damaged, he had a double fracture in the face and he also had some bleeding in the brain due to the assault but according to the report of the CAT Scan that was done, it was a concerning position where he had to be transferred from San Ignacio to Belmopan and Belmopan to Belize City hospital, KHMH, where he was looked at and monitored because of the bleeding in the brain but thank God that that was taken care of."

"They stole his wallet with all his identifications and I don't know if he had any money with him but his wallet and his phone was taken away from him."
"Earlier this morning I spoke with Sergeant Rodriguez and I had a talk with him, a conversation regarding this action that has been taken and he says they're still working on it, they had submitted some sort of permission to BTL that they could have permission to go and view the tapes. But I still do not understand why it would take them so long to do such things. I applaud him for the interest and the work he's doing but these things are time sensitive but at the same time I think if there's more push or work, it could be done sooner."
Courtney Menzies:
"So what was your reaction when you saw that another robbery had taken place in that same area?"
Robert Waight, Brother of Robbery Victim
"It is very disturbing to me and I have known San Ignacio, I have lived there, I was born there, and I've known that to be one of the safest place in Belize. And so far as the years go by, it seems that it's getting worse and something has to be done about it. And the sad part is that this is happening in my town."
No one has been arrested for this assault.
