And as for the Mayor of Belmopan - he's furiously defending the Garden City - in the face of a fast dwindling reputation as "a shining city on a hill."
Though it happened in the heart of his city - he says the double murder is, quote, "not affiliated to Belmopan.":...
Pablo Cawich, Mayor of Belmopan
"It is not affiliated to Belmopan in any way. Both the victims and the attackers are from outside of Belmopan. So I just wanted to clear up that noise that is stating that Belmopan is becoming unsafe because that is clearly untrue."
"The government has started the community surveillance unit which is equipping different municipalities with cameras. So I know that the walkways are also part of the plan. So this is definitely something that might push a little bit of more priority being placed on sidewalk surveillance."
